1. Introduction to plate corundum
Plate corundum is a kind of pure sintered corundum without any additives such as MgO, B2O3 and so on. It has a crystal structure of α - Al2O3 with coarse crystal size and good development. The content of Al2O3 is more than 99%. The plate crystal structure has small pores and many closed pores. The porosity is about the same as that of electric fused corundum. It has high purity, good volume stability and very small reburning shrinkage The refractory or castable has good thermal shock stability and bending strength after high temperature treatment.

Main uses of tabular corundum
plate corundum can be used as the main component in alumina carbon, alumina magnesia carbon, magnesia alumina carbon, magnesia spinel and alumina chrome refractory bricks, and can also be introduced into high alumina amorphous refractories as enriched alumina component, which can be widely used in steel, casting, ceramics and other industries, among which the application in steel industry almost covers the whole process of iron and steel making.

With the continuous development of refining technology outside the furnace, the application environment of refractories in ladle is more and more severe. The molten steel needs to stay in the ladle for a longer time for stirring, heating and different slag erosion. The single material of ladle lining (such as magnesium or aluminum) has been replaced by composite material. At present, the basic mode of using large and medium-sized ladle refractories is to use Al Mg spinel system castables with sintered plate corundum and spinel as main materials for ladle bottom or wall, and MgO-C brick for slag line.

Prefabricated parts, such as air permeable brick, seat brick, spray gun, impact plate, etc., are not only a part of the ladle refractory lining, but also play a very important role in the steel-making process itself. The composite use of sintered plate corundum, spinel and other refractory materials can effectively improve the thermodynamic properties of refractories, i.e. improve the wear resistance and erosion resistance.
